This Thursday, settle in on the Riverside Market balcony and enjoy an evening of live jazz from Christchurch duo Serge Beaton and John Bevin. Bringing together the rich sound of trombone and the warmth of piano and vocals, Serge and John create a relaxed, rhythmic and melodic atmosphere that is perfect for a Thursday evening at the Market.

The duo draws from a century of jazz, moving through swing, bebop, funk, ballads and other familiar favourites. Serge Beaton is an accomplished Christchurch trombonist who has performed with the New Zealand Youth Jazz Orchestra, the Garden City Big Band and a number of internationally recognised jazz musicians. Alongside him, pianist and vocalist John Bevin brings years of experience performing jazz, popular music and a wide range of styles, from the songs of Gershwin, Cole Porter and Richard Rodgers to the sounds of the 50s, 60s and 70s.

Together, their stripped-back approach lets the character of each instrument shine, creating music that is lively enough to enjoy and relaxed enough to accompany your evening. So grab your friends, choose something delicious from one of our traders, enjoy a drink and make your way up to the balcony for an evening of live music overlooking Riverside Market.
