About the band

Despite facing challenges including the impact of Covid and the loss of trombonist Tony Lewis, the River City Jazzmen are resilient and ready for their Central Otago Tour in 2024. They promise to uphold their dedication to authentic Dixieland standards while adding their own interpretations to well-known tunes. The band introduces Glyn MacDonald, a talented musician from Western Australia, who brings his skills not only on the trombone but also on the keyboards. With members from Christchurch, the RCJ lineup includes Michael Fairhurst on trumpet and vocals, Allan Hawes on clarinet and saxophones, Louie Moverley on drums, Neill Pickard on banjo, guitar, and vocals, and Dave Pitt on acoustic bass. Their repertoire spans from US hits of the 1920s-40s to UK 'trad' standards of the 1950s-60s, featuring popular tunes such as "Bourbon Street Parade," "Caravan," "Petite Fleur," and "Tiger Rag."
